How to be disciplined according to Motivation in Human Design
Motivation as the guide to inner authority. Part I
A few days ago I saw an instagram post with a quote that resonated a lot with me. I love seeing redefinitions on the word "discipline", it has been a topic very complex for me for some time. As a lover of game words, I find it fascinating that you can find your "motivation" strategy through Human Design.
Motivation plays a big part on discipline, although it is not what sustains it, but being aligned with what motivates you long term is key to making a habit and being somewhat consistent with anything you want to stick to.
As the meaning and etymology of Discipline, this word finds itself between words like knowledge, follower, and punishment. So let's call such punishment Transference.
Transference in Human Design, is when you're acting out of alignment with your inner authority, or for correct terms when you're being your Not-Self.
So here is a game of words to identify yourself with how you can access to your motivation and therefore to discipline. You can find your Motivation by getting your Human Design Chart and looking for Motivation (if you don't know how to do that, let me know)
These are the categories according to their corresponding number:
1.- Fear
2.- Hope
3.- Desire
4.- Need
5.- Guilt
6.- Innocence
Now let’s correlate each with the concept of Discipline:
Fear - 1
Discipline means continuity
This is about safety, not for the sake of routine, but rather expansion. Growing from your nest. Discipline means growing within your comfort zone outwards.
Hope - 2
“Discipline is faith in action”
(the quote from that instagram post which inspired this entry!)
This is about not limiting yourself by trying to get ahead of the future. It is about believing there is chance as you move. Discipline means believing you can continue.
Desire - 3
Discipline means opening new doors
This is about pursuing. It is about the pursuit of a goal to bring into its full realization. Discipline is about transformation.
Need - 4
Discipline means not complicating things
This is about cutting back, back to basics, simplifying and only the essentials. Discipline is about simplicity, don’t dig your head in the sand.
Guilt - 5
Discipline means making things right
This is about taking responsibility and making life easier to navigate. Discipline is about accountability.
Innocence - 6
Discipline means being me
This is about embracing your experience as the teacher and tuning into your authority. Discipline is about perspective.
- How to apply each for discipline -
Each time there's resistance in the way, each time of frustration or anger, it means that there's difficulty in the continuity of the process, and a good way to recalibrate is checking in with your motivation to confirm if your actions are correct.
Motivation is not there to tell you to keep going just because, it is there to remind you of the decision you made when you took on the challenge to forge that habit that brings you closer to yourself and the life you've decided you wanted.
Discipline its not about punishment, its about bringing you closer to your motives.
Each time there's incongruence in your life with what you're doing and the doubt to keep doing it, that's when Motivation comes in, to bring you back to your main character, the real filter: Authority.
Check the next entry on how to check if your Motivation is being filtered through the Not-Self, aka Transference.
