Recently during a talk with a very close friend of mine Mehwash Saani, we were talking about Virgo's light and shadow, and her questions inspired me to create this entry today.

Here is the edited version of our conversation:

“I am wondering being a Virgo Sun can you talk about the shadow & light as how you experience it?“

Shadow for me is these keywords:

perfectionism, sacrifice, criticism, control

These keywords cloud my judgment, and make me very afraid of taking action because I want to embody my own standards which are based on conditioning.

Virgo just wants to have their offerings be useful and practical for people, and this perfectionism and criticism shadow come to prevent getting hurt when people don’t know how to appreciate what Virgo has done, it's the shield.

In regards to sacrifice

Sacrifice it's the work done in silent, there's work done because Virgo enjoys the immersion and then the crops, but there's also the work done for the sake of the results and Virgos are willing to let themselves get hurt in order to get the results and this is not okay and gives permission to other people to take advantage and think it's okay for Virgos to sacrifice all the time.

Virgos hide the pain and make it seem effortless, so people don’t even see there is sacrifice, or that the sacrifice is a sign of modesty.

control-freaks

This term is often used with Virgo. I’d say it’s true. But stop for a moment and contemplate this scenario: What if the results of a situation is something you are very attached to? What if the outcome of what you are working on is where your identity lies the most? This is very Virgo, and that is why Virgos are so self-critical, and we can externalize this, even with the people we are supposed to be working with and that we love.

The moment Virgo realizes that it doesn’t need to rise to their expectations, and that the outcome lies far beyond their work and their control, then Virgo can understand that it’s not healthy to control what cannot be controlled.

Health declines when expectations are higher than our capacity to deliver, and for Virgo it’s hard to accept that the work is more important than the results.

In the light, this trait of Control becomes Management, in this way Virgo understands that they cannot do it alone, and that the best outcome is when the work flows with communication and tact.

In regards of the light

Some of the "shadow" keywords also apply to the light, it's all about perspective and circumstance. To me, these are qualities aren't deemed as good or bad, they're used differently depending of the situation.

Sacrifice as egoless

Virgo doesn't mind getting their hands dirty and doing the work as long as is in the name of healing, this to me is real modesty, because it doesn't see itself as the healer and the ego attached to it (meaning getting a sense of moral superiority), it simply goes and gives devotion and does the job and the pouring of heart and soul and hands into what is needed.

Perfection in the light

Virgo is diligent and therefore will strive for refining while still remaining flexible, showcasing their mutable quality. Here is where tasks improve and evolve. Perfection is the goal but never the rule. Perfection in the service of an easier life (or a less painful one).

Discerning rather than being judgmental

Instead of criticizing, Virgo’s analytical skills reflect a discerning attitude, which is about separating and making practical use of each element. What is good and its purpose? What is bad and its purpose? The ultimate alchemical and apothecary process like Baba Yaga's analysis in Women Who Run with Wolves.

Those scenarios is where I see Virgo shinning, because every task is done with purpose, devotion, diligence and discrimination.

Virgo and Pisces

"Victim for me has been a Pisces shadow. I am curious, how do you see it as a Virgo shadow?"

Virgo’ shadow in this scenario is when we don't ask for help. We become so attached with doing (task oriented) that we forget we are humans as well and we need that nurturing and that diligence oriented towards ourselves as well, and then we turn into martyrs when we don't get the help we crave or need.

Being in service of self is a trait Virgo has a hard time seeing as selfless and as a good thing, because when you're in service and take care of yourself, then everyone that you care about also enjoys that benefit.

The caretaker needs good health to continue it's job

Also consider this if it helps and resonates, sometimes the medicine of one sign is in its opposite, so if you're a Pisces or have Pisces placements, sometimes helping others, being organized with tasks and/or taking care of your health will help stabilize that Pisces energy that can get lost in the wonder of life and the realms of imagination.

xoxo, dens
