Fantasy changes perspective

Archetypal channeling and it's relationship to daydreaming

Fantasy and Daydreaming

Fantasy in the context of daydreaming is to me the seed of every creation.

Everything starts within imagination, and sometimes when I dread doing something, the idealization of it makes it more bearable.

For example: Sometimes fashion makes me more excited, the idea of an outfit or a vibe to an occasion makes the moment more special, or makes me feel like I’m part of something bigger than just going to the office and needing to look presentable. It makes the ordinary more purposeful. This doesn’t mean that I do it all the time, but when I need that buzz, getting ready does it for me.

Sometimes its what we think an experience can feel like that changes our perspective to what we wouldn’t see as captivating or joyful before.

The dark side

This also brings its own consequences of course, like avoiding reality altogether and indulging in escapism, but when done with intention and the more we get to know ourselves (as to not violate our values and boundaries) fantasy brings color to the mundane.

There’s also the type of fantasy that disconnects you from the present, this is called Maladaptive Daydreaming, it refers to excessive daydreaming and most of the time is involuntary. This is an extreme point of the spectrum so it is not so common. You don’t have to worry about this if you don’t experience it already. (If you do, this entry’s practice might not be the best approach).

The practice I talk beyond this point is about daydreaming AND taking action with what we daydream about, it is voluntary, consensual and to be done in a mindful manner.

Fantasy that makes you be present

  • What do you fantasize about?

  • What needs color in your life?

  • How can you change your perspective of it by incorporating some of your fantasies in this story?

  • Can perhaps that Salsa night be more joyful if you wear a dress that flows with music, or some heels to feed your confidence? All to make you feel you’re in a music video

  • Can perhaps that work presentation be less terrifying by pretending you’re a politician at a conference or you’re a TED talk speaker?

  • Can perhaps pampering yourself to a spa-day at home happen more often by imagining you’re teaching other people how to do it?

  • Can perhaps going to the gym be more motivational by picturing you’re in an action movie where the character is preparing for a crucial moment?

The Esoterics of Fantasy

In esoteric terms, this is archetypal channeling. This is when you take a symbol (of anything you feel drawn to) and let your imagination do the job of:

  • What does this feel like?

  • What would this archetype do?

  • What elements am I missing?

  • What elements do I have already?

You get the idea.

Take any symbol or representation for this, base it on what you already know, be it an instagram influencer to an old time guru to a Tarot Card, etc. The point is that you already know what the archetype represents so that you can take this role for a specific act.

Fantasy and Identity

Don't get caught up in if you're mixing your identity with fantasy.

Fantasy reveals who we are. When we engage in this practice often, we start to develop archetypes using ourselves and our personalities, because we start to see ourselves in our creations. In action you will find out what you relate to, and what you don't.

Allow yourself to change overtime, this is a normal part of nature.

Fantasy and Shame

Don't shame yourself for your fantasies and what inspires you, everything has a starting point, and the more you take action the more you'll get to know yourself, and the more you'll make the habit of connecting to parts of you that want to experience life in different layers or in ways it always felt wrong to because others said it was cringy or unusual of you.

Life imitates art, art imitates life.

The endless cycle of creation and inspiration.

xoxo, dens
